Advent Sermon Series: Where are you, Christmas?
Sundays before Christmas, beginning November 30th

In the Advent sermon series, we will be examining some of the things that get in the way of our experiencing the true meaning of Christmas, using questions from the lyrics to the Faith Hill song "Where are you, Christmas":

  • Why Can't I Find You?
  • Why Have You Gone Away?
  • Where is the Laughter?
  • Why Can't I Hear the Music Play?

Longest Night service
Sunday, Dec 21, 5:00 p.m.

The holidays are full of heightened emotions and expectations. It is easy to get lost in the demands, activities, and consumption of this time of year. Besides excitement and joy, many us also also feel anxiety, addiction, stress, loneliness, depression, overwhelm, frustration grief, loss, uncertainty.

During this service we will remind one another that Christ’s light shines on even the darkest situation. We will light candles and lift one another in prayer.

Please join us on Sunday, December 21 at 5:00 p.m. – the longest night of the year. Again this year we will be partnering with several other progressive congregations in our surrounding area. This ecumenical service will take place at First Christian Church, Concord.

Experience the Sacred
through Song & Silence
in the spirit of TAIZE

On Sunday, December 28, we will have ONE SERVICE at 10 a.m.

This will be a simple service of Taizé music, prayers and silence. We have found that this quiet, contemplative service in the midst of these busy, hectic holidays to be a valued gift.

The Taizé service is designed to help one enter into the mystery of God's presence. The service has no formal leadership, no sermon and few words are spoken. The music is a unique form of musical prayer, which are not meant to be sung as hymns, but rather as a series of prayers. In the midst of the stillness and silence we aware of an inviting reverent space; a space for people to find the quiet place within, and in their own way, God.

:: a new day

We understand that some in California don't believe that God's love is big enough to welcome gays and lesbians. But we believe it is. We believe that God does love everyone, and that's why we welcome everyone, regardless of ethnic or racial heritage, gender, ability, sexual orientation, or economic or political status.

We are thrilled that the Supreme Court has let a lower court's decision stand overturning Proposition 8, and that California now fully supports the marriages of committed people in loving relationships.

And now that the State of California issues marriage licenses to couples regardless of sexual orientation, we are continuing to perform gay and lesbian weddings in our sanctuary -- as we have always done -- because we believe that all marriages are sacred in the eyes of God.

If you would like to have your wedding in a church that believes and demonstrates that all are welcome, please contact us at 925-685-7503 or at info@concordfcc.net.

At First Christian Church Concord we don't just believe in diversity — we embody it.

Among us, on any given Sunday, you will find both young and old, straight and gay, black and white, people with faith to move mountains and folks visiting this crazy thing called "church" for the first time — and virtually everything in between! We welcome you to come and see what it's like when a church goes beyond acceptance to affirmation — when people go beyond talking about God to living out the love of Jesus in their lives.

In this community of faith there is a variety of opinions, but UNITY in our quest for an intimate and authentic relationship with the Divine.

Join us this Sunday and discover for yourself what being part of a dynamic community of faith feels like.

Welcome to everyone! We hope you find peace and uplift in our worship.
