First Christian Church of Concord recognizes that outreach is central to our faith and our identity as Christians. We are committed to helping our neighbors locally, nationally and internationally by doing hands-on ministry, raising funds, and collecting supplies for various ministries and agencies in our community and around the world.
Outreach ministry encourages the congregation to think broadly in terms of mission and to have a keen awareness of the word's needs. Our programs are consistent with Christ's teachings to feed the hungry, care for the sick, and love others as we love ourselves.
At the local level we work together with the Contra Costa Interfaith Coalition (CCIC) to feed the homeless at the North Concord Shelter the fourth Saturday of every month. The 5th Week Food Boxes are canned foods that are collected and packed for distribution to the needy families. A list of canned foods is available at our church office or by contacing an Outreach team member. Bring a can or bring a case of food; bring one item or bring the entire box of food which is about $55.
We also participate in Warm Winter Nights, a CCIC program that provides shelter for homeless families with children and ambulatory elders capable of self care. It operates during the winter months in congregation facilities that serve on rotating basis, and this year we will host the program the week of November 2 through 9.
Currently we are also actively involved in special outreach to Tijuana, Mexico, the Gulf Coast recovery area, and the Miracle Days in our own Northern California-Nevada region.
Here is a list of other upcoming outreach events:
All Church Cleanup, sponsored by House and Grounds, on Saturday, October 17
Cropwalk on Sunday, October 18
