Movie Discussion Night: The Asian Americans, part 3

  • First Christian Church, Concord 3039 Willow Pass Road Concord, CA, 94519 United States (map)

As we continue to work toward being an anti-racist/pro-reconciling church, we turn our attention to our Asian-American and Pacific Island siblings. The best way to understand the root causes of the recent rise in anti-Asian violence is to understand the history and learn ways we can best be allies. We will, over several weeks, discuss the PBS series, “The Asian Americans.” Please click the series title to go to the PBS series website. The five-part series is now streaming at PBS.org. Please watch Episode 3: GOOD AMERICANS before the meeting on June 9th. “During the Cold War years, Asian Americans are simultaneously heralded as a Model Minority, and targeted as the perpetual foreigner. It is also a time of bold ambition, as Asian Americans aspire for the first time to national political office and a coming culture-quake simmers beneath the surface.” Inverleith Fruci will help lead the discussion. If you have not been participating in previous movie discussions, we want to welcome you to this conversation. Please email Meg Sumowiec or Pastor Leslie so we can send you the discussion questions.
