June 29, 2025: The Way of the Innkeeper
Luke 10: 25-37
Rev. Dr. Leslie Taylor, preaching
At different points in our lives, we each have been every character in the parable of the Good Samaritan. At times, we have been the injured one; other times we have been the one who passed by, and hopefully we also have been the surprising helper who stepped in to render aid. This week, we reflect on a fourth character, the innkeeper, who aided the one in need under the direction of the Samaritan. Are we like the innkeeper, ready to welcome those who come to us with injuries in need of care? Or are we too busy, too stretched, too apathetic, or too sure that we can't really make a difference? Let us challenge ourselves, trusting in God's grace and provision.
"Holy God, we dream of our church being a place to welcome weary travelers, but we are often overwhelmed. We are overwhelmed by all the needs of the world and by how much it takes to keep our little "inn" open. Remind us that we are not the only ones dreaming with you for a more just world. Assure us that no gift is too small to welcome a stranger in need. Amen."
Friends, with God's grace, we are enough. With all that God provides, we have enough. Be assured that in God's love, we are renewed to dream again. Amen.
