May 11, 2025: Telling Our Story
1 Corinthians 11: 23-26
Rev. Dr. Leslie Taylor, preaching
Each Sunday, we gather, grounded in the heart of our shared journey, words echoing from 1 Corinthians 11: 23-26. In a final shared meal, the bread was taken, gratitude offered, the bread was broken and Jesus said: "Do this in remembrance of me." Likewise, the cup followed: "Do this, whenever you share it, in remembrance of me." By partaking of this bread and cup, we proclaim this profound act of love and liberation until its fullness arrives.
This sacred remembrance invites reflection on a dream realized — God's limitless love expressed through human experience for our wholeness. As that dream of liberation unfolded through humble means, so too can the Divine's expansive vision for our community be realized through each of us.
Our Stewardship theme for 2025, "Dreaming God's Big Dream: No Gift Too Small, No Dream Too Big," calls us to embrace this truth: no gift among us is insignificant, and no dream rooted in hope is too audacious for the Divine. Consider the shared bread, a simple offering that embodies profound connection. Every act of service, every heartfelt prayer, and every talent shared are vital threads in the sacred tapestry, proclaiming love and justice as surely as this shared meal.
The dreams stirring within you are not mere fantasies but potential pathways where the Divine's light — the very light revealed in that act of love and liberation — can shine through us into the world.
Let us dare to dream big, envisioning a future where the Divine's love, the love we remember in communion, transforms our community and beyond. Let us also cherish the small, consistent acts of faithfulness that lay the foundation for that future, remembering that even the simplest act of remembrance holds immense power.
In the Divine's expansive embrace, just as shared bread became a symbol of liberation, the smallest seed can blossom into a mighty tree, and the most audacious dream, nurtured by hope and remembrance, can become a glorious reality. Let us dream together, serve together, and build a world that reflects divine justice and love, proclaiming that love and liberation until their fullness is realized, knowing that with the Divine, all things are possible.
