May 4, 2025: Fear and Loving in Tiberias
John 21: 1-19
Audrey Barton, preaching
In this season of the church, we are looking at the experiences that the disciples had of Jesus after his resurrection, and the way they began their own resurrected lives — of new vitality, union with Christ, and a clear purpose of sharing all that they had received, as widely as possible.
Peter has often been used as a case study of monstrous failure and remarkably gracious restoration. God's restoration of us all is remarkably gracious. But this Sunday we'll be taking a more compassionate and nuanced look at Peter's experience of weakness and healing. 1-2-3, he moved deeper into denial of Christ and betrayal of himself. 1-2-3, he rose back to freedom from shame and self-recrimination.
I encourage you to read John 21:1-19 separately; we will read verses 1-17 in church. And you may read about Peter's denial in Mark 14:54, 66-72.
Based on John 21:1-19
